Proven Effective by Published Research
Through a randomized, controlled trial, MIEA’s mindfulness curriculum (formerly known as Koru Mindfulness) has firmly established itself as an evidence-based program. Developed over 10 years of trial and refinement at Duke University’s student counseling center by two psychiatrists with expertise in college mental health, our curriculum is designed to be accessible and effective for young adults. The results of our trial speak for themselves.
Cost-Effective and Low-Stigma Stress Intervention
Our study demonstrated that MIEA’s mindfulness curriculum is a cost-effective and low-stigma intervention for addressing high levels of stress among students. These findings make MIEA an ideal choice for effective stress management solutions.
Leading the Way in Evidence-Based Mindfulness
As a result of our trial, MIEA’s mindfulness curriculum became the leading evidence-based mindfulness curriculum for emerging adults. Our article, published in the prestigious Journal of American College Health, gained significant attention and was the journal’s most downloaded article in 2014.
Positive results from trial:
Students reported feeling more calm
“I am worrying less and enjoying myself more. I’ve gotten better at staying focused in the present and I don’t feel so stressed all the time.”
Students felt more rested
“It’s so much easier to fall asleep now that I have techniques for quieting my mind.”
Students had greater self-compassion
“Before, I never noticed how much time I spent lost in negative thoughts about myself. I think the biggest change for me is I’m not so hard on myself anymore. It makes everything a whole lot easier.”
Students improved their mindfulness
“I have found that mindfulness has pervaded my life. On and off I realize that my mind is spinning and it has become much easier for me to take some breaths and bring my mind back to the present.”

Helps Students Cope with COVID-19
A study published in 2020 shows that The Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults curriculum (formerly known as Koru Mindfulness) helps students cope with COVID-19-related stress and anxiety.
Compared to the control group, students who took MIEA’s class at the onset of the COVID crisis reported lower levels of stress and anxiety, as well as improved attention, sleep, mindfulness, and self-compassion.

The science behind mindfulness
Addressing the unique challenges of college-aged adults.
A Time of Loneliness
18 to 30-year-olds face exploration, instability, and increased time online, leading to loneliness, stress, and a lack of resilience.
The Benefits of Mindfulness
Research shows that mindfulness cultivates compassion, resilience, and wisdom to address the challenges college-aged adults face.
Accessible Mindfulness Instruction
Mindfulness instruction often lacks relevance and accessibility for those who need it most. Students thrive with structure, direction, and context.
