Rights, responsibilities, and terms
This document describes the rights and responsibilities of a Certified MIEA Mindfulness Teacher and the terms that govern the use of the MIEA teaching materials.
MIEA owns all intellectual property
- The Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults (MIEA) owns the intellectual property, copyright, and trademark for Koru Mindfulness.
MIEA teachers have permission to use MIEA materials
- Active Certified Teachers and Teachers in Training have permission to use our materials. This includes our logo, all the teaching materials provided for you at the teacher training workshop, and all the materials provided on the online Teacher Dashboard.
- For purposes of clarity, an Active Certified Teacher is a teacher who has paid for an annual plan. An annual plan includes a teaching license and subscription to the Teacher Dashboard. Should you decide not to renew your annual plan, your Certification will be considered “inactive”. You can reactivate your certification by paying for an annual plan.
- If your certification lapses and becomes “inactive”, you can’t continue to use our materials. This means you must pay for an annual plan to continue to have access to all materials and teach MIEA’s curriculum. If your certification is inactive, you are no longer licensed to use the materials and teach MIEA’s curriculum. Should you wish to teach MIEA’s curriculum in the future you can reactivate your certification by paying for an annual plan.
- If you are a Teacher in Training and don’t complete the training in one year, your status becomes inactive and your license to use the materials becomes inactive. If you need more time to complete your training, you may extend your training period by paying a fee. This activates your license to use the materials and begin teaching again.
The limitations
- You can only use MIEA’s materials for your own teaching. You can’t copy or share them with others who are not MIEA teachers. And you can’t sell them.
- You cannot train other folks to teach MIEA’s curriculum. Only MIEA can do that.
- Translating the materials for your own personal teaching may be fine. Just get written permission from MIEA first.
- You can’t amend or adapt our materials without written permission.
Teaching MIEA’s curriculum
- MIEA’s curriculum can only be taught by Active Certified Teachers or Teachers in Training. Active Certified Teachers and Teachers in Training can teach MIEA’s curriculum in any setting, either as a volunteer, as part of your duties in your professional position, or by charging an appropriate fee for your services and expertise. You may use your own discretion in setting your fees.
- To continue to teach MIEA’s curriculum, you must maintain your certification by paying for an annual plan. Only Teachers in Training and Certified Teachers who have paid for an annual plan can teach MIEA’s curriculum.
- Active Certified Teachers and Teachers in Training are listed in the teacher directory and may advertise themselves as MIEA teachers.
Who can use the MIEA Teacher Dashboard?
- Teachers in Training get a complimentary subscription to the Teacher Dashboard for up to 12 months during the training period. You can extend this access by 3 months at a time if you need to extend your training period. This cannot be done more than 2 times. (See #5 above.)
- Access to the Teacher Dashboard is available to Active Certified Teachers and is included in the annual plan.
- If your annual plan expires, you won’t have access to the Teacher Dashboard.
Doing research on MIEA’s curriculum
- Research on MIEA’s curriculum may only be completed when Active Certified Teachers are doing the teaching. This is the only way to maintain validity in research findings with MIEA’s curriculum.
- If you plan to do a research project using MIEA’s curriculum, make sure to consult with MIEA before you get started.
A few final things
- Once you complete certification, you are qualified to teach MIEA’s curriculum. You may only teach, however, if you pay for an annual plan. If your annual plan expires, is discontinued, or is revoked for any reason, you may not teach MIEA’s curriculum, use any of the MIEA teaching materials, or use our logo.
- We don’t think this would ever happen, but we reserve the right to revoke certification for any individual who in our reasonable judgment is adversely affecting the MIEA program or curriculum.
- MIEA has the right to update or amend these Terms and Conditions from time to time. You can always see them on our website.
